Why Eric

An operator's point of view, not a commentator's.

Operator, not commentator

Eric has built, led, bought, sold, advised, and helped restructure businesses from inside the operating reality, not from the sidelines.

25 years in practice services

His work spans business growth, practice profitability, education, management, M&A, and owner-led healthcare businesses.

A point of view shaped by both building and breaking

His perspective comes from what works when a business is growing, what fails when the underlying systems do not keep up, and what owners learn when the stakes become personal.

Speaking and interview topics

What Eric can talk about.

Why profitable businesses still break

The operating systems, decision gaps, and owner dependencies that can quietly undermine an otherwise healthy business.

The systems behind owner-led growth

Why growth creates complexity faster than most owners build management capacity.

What actually increases practice value

The financial and operating factors that influence transferability, buyer appetite, and valuation.

Why EBITDA is not the whole story

What buyers see beyond earnings, including owner dependence, provider depth, recurring revenue, concentration, and management capability.

Building a business that can survive the owner

How to reduce founder dependence and create an organization that works without constant owner intervention.

What buyers see that owners miss

The difference between how an owner experiences a business and how a buyer underwrites it.

Growth without operating discipline

Why revenue growth alone can make a business weaker, more fragile, and harder to manage.

The hidden cost of founder dependence

How operational dependence on one person affects scale, value, and eventual transition.

The Broke(n) Part(s)

The book

The Broke(n) Part(s)

A founder field guide for what happens when business pressure, cash flow, decisions, and personal life all collide at once.

For hosts and organizers
The book is a conversation, not a pitch.

Eric talks about the parts that broke, the parts that did not, and what an owner can do before the pressure arrives. Bring the questions your audience is already asking.

Full bio

Eric Nuss is the founder of XpoNential Management, an operations management and transaction advisory firm serving independent dental and healthcare businesses. Rather than delivering recommendations and leaving, the firm works inside the business, supplying the financial reporting, operating cadence, vendor management, team accountability, and growth planning that larger organizations employ people to run.

His career spans 25 years in practice services. At Henry Schein he served as a regional general manager before founding and leading the company's Business Solutions division. There he created the Dental Business Institute, a multi-session business education program for practice owners with a national faculty, and led its classroom for eight years. More than three hundred owners completed the program.

He subsequently held business development leadership at a national dental group, where he worked on associate equity and practice acquisitions, and founded and ran a dental services organization as chief executive. Across that career he has worked more than one hundred practice transactions on both the buy side and the sell side.

He holds an MBA from the University of Iowa and is the author of The Broke(n) Part(s), published in 2026. He is based in Parker, Colorado.
